Penn State blogs? Oh, I got Penn State blogs

◊ Tomorrow, February 1, will be the first month since July in which a college football game will not be played. Rather depressing, I know. So let's spend the last day of the last month of college football, stealing filler from poking around the Penn State blogging community.

• Probably the single most entertaining post this month (unless you're a Bill O'Reilly fan) is from Happy Hour Valley, which does a spot-on written imitation of Keith Olbermann's 'Special Comment' segments. The topic: Chris Morelli's hatchet job on Derrick Williams. You should definitely go over to HHV and read the entire post, but I'll give you a teaser from the final 'graph:
"...you choose to portray him a liability, as evidenced by your stating that you hope he isn’t drafted by your favorite NFL team, a statement so disgusting, preposterous and Un-American that it’s not even worth delving into. YOU SIR, should step down immediately not only for the sake of this great nation but also for you own sake and the possibility of saving what little semblance of a face you may have left…"
• In the other hot topic this week–Penn State's pitiful non-conference schedule for '09–The Nittany Line doesn't beat around the bush.
"Can you say crap, crap and more crap? News flash for the powers that be: you may be selling tickets and making money but that ass-rape you received by the likes of USC will continue if you don't start scheduling somebody with a pulse. Here's how it's gonna go, let me break it down for ya one time: PSU will plow through the first three games like a bulldozer through a wall of pudding and then will hit Iowa and realize, probably far too late, that the cupcakes (wait… those teams can't even be categorized as cupcakes, you need milk to eat cupcakes or you might choke… more like bowls of Cool Whip)"
• Has anyone heard from There Is No Name On My Jersey?

• But with more on the scheduling issues, Black Shoe Diaries and Nittany White Out look a little deeper.

Will Penn State be able to save it's SOS this season? BSD says its now really up to the BigTen as a whole.
"...So Curley quickly scrambled the last couple of weeks to find a sucker willing to take a bad deal that would add some name brand flavor to the 2009 schedule; no one bit. Now we have to deal with it... What it means, then, is that Penn State needs the rest of the conference to come up big time in out of conference games to avoid a major demerit in SOS that will perpetually be attached to any discussion about Penn State's record."
NWO sees a strong comparison between the 2009 Iowa game, and the 2008 Illinois game.
"As much as Penn State would like to hype up the Iowa game, consider the absence of Greene like the loss of Mendenhall for Illinois. They will be overranked entering the season only to drop out by season’s end. Iowa this year was last year’s Illinois. And the [Sept. 26] game will be their rude awakening."
• So that's it for our tour around the Penn State blogosphere. This week is big in college football, as Feb. 4 is national letter of intent signing day. Some big names are on the radar for Penn State, particularly LB Jelani Jenkins. I might try to get all these guys together for a recruiting roundup Blue & White Roundtable, but we'll see what happens. Have a great rest of your weekend.
