UPDATED: Beaver Stadium scoreboard changes

Updated 4:45 p.m.

Word around the internets says we could see some changes to the scoreboards in Beaver Stadium. From what I've heard, they're changing the lettering of "Penn State," from the traditional "tennis ball" font, to a more block-style, similar to what we now see in the end zones. Now thanks to NittanyWhiteOut.com for coming through with the photo of the new look scoreboards. Check it out below the fold.

I'll say it now and get it over with. I'm not a fan of how this looks. The concept -- old school, block lettering -- was fantastic, but the execution was terrible. In fact, this completely violates the Visual and Editorial Standards for the Intercollegiate Athletics Logo. I realize that those standards were set for the old "tennis ball" logos and lettering, but the basic formula should have been maintained on all Penn State graphics. Let's call this one a walk for Guido D'Elia; it's better than a strikeout, but isn't a base hit, never mind a home run.
