ZN's CFB Top 25 :: Week 6 2009

Weird week in college football. Ok, maybe not as weird as last week, but still interesting enough. A bunch of important teams had bye weeks, while others played like crap against crap teams. Can we start playing some real football now?

UCLA (23), [3-1, L 24-16 Stanford]
Houston (9), [3-1, L 58 - 41 Texas-El Paso]

Notes: Either Florida or Texas can overtake Alabama when they decide to play a real schedule. If you put The Tide and the Gators on the same field right now, Bama would win. Cincinnati has earned their ranking, so the Bearcats stay at No. 4 until something big happens. I was very unimpressed with LSU's win at Georgia, since the refs had more to do with the outcome than the players on the field. Iowa's lucky I didn't drop them from the top 10 this week. But Auburn and South Florida are probably the two most underrated teams in the top 20. If Boise State wants respect, they need to beat FCS teams by more than 18 points. As for Miami, I like what the Canes are doing, but I'm waiting a bit to bump them up. I got caught up in that last time. The bottom 10-15 teams are a hodge-podge of one-loss and newly-five-win teams. Some entries this week to note are Wisconsin and Stanford. Oklahoma and Cal should not be in anyone's top 25 right now, especially the Sooners at 2-2. Teams with .500 records after September don't get ranked in my book.
