ZN's Top 25, Sept. 10

If it were up to me, there would be no polls until week 4 or 5. However, in order to keep up with what readers want, I'm ranking teams where I want to rank them. If you need any other reason to wait until week 4 or 5 for polls, look no further than the Michigan Wolverines.

1. Oklahoma (LW: 1) Miami isn’t really that bad; OU is just really that good.
2. LSU (4) VT was a bit overrated by the major polls, but LSU still trounced a decent team.
3. USC (2) We’ll see what happens against NU in Lincoln.
4. Florida (7) Yeah, the Gators were up big at the half; no reason to get that loose at the end against Troy.
5. Penn State (9) Morelli was dumb as a rock for a while, but defense will go very far this season.
6. West Virgina (6) C’mon, it was Marshall; shouldn’t have trailed that long.
7. California (8) I’ll look at that one as a post-UT hangover.
8. UCLA (11) BYU could have been a big trap game; but the Bruins were ready.
9. Oregon (20) You knew it would happen; now, can the Ducks keep it up?
10. Georgia Tech (24) Beat up on the worst Pac-10 team.
11. Rutgers (17) Solid win over a good Navy team; Rice should move up the Heisman polls.
12. Louisville (3) Didn’t help the Big East’s “I swear, we play defense, too” argument.
13. Wisconsin (5) Whew, that was close; better improve next week.
14. Texas (12) ‘Horns can’t wake up that late against better opponents.
15. Ohio State (10) 20 points against Akron? And a safety?
16. Nebraska (14) Bad officiating prevented WF upset.
17. Arkansas (18) Can’t overlook the Tide this week.
18. USF (NR) OK Bulls, now what can you do?
19. Tennessee (19) USM caught a Vol team reeling.
20. Clemson (NR) O looked better; D bent too often.
21. South Carolina (NR) Gotcha! Cocks pecked the sleeping Dogs.
22. Virginia Tech (13) I knew VT wasn’t a top-10 team.
23. Missouri (22) Sure up the defense this week; nice O against Miss.
24. Georgia (16) Got a bit ahead of yourselves, Dogs? SC is not THAT good.
25. Boston College (NR) Way to get back at Tom O’Brian.
Dropped Out:
Auburn (15) AU should have beaten USF at home; Tigers looked clumsy.;
Texas A&M (21) Where’s the Wrecking Crew?;
TCU (23) Frogs will come back, but how soon?;
Hawaii (25) Lucky.
