How many wins for the Buckeyes?

Sorry about this, but I completely forgot to add the new poll to go along with last week's First Look '09: Ohio State.

Well, it's up now, and I'll leave it there for some extra time to get those votes in.

First Look '09 poll: Akron

In preparation for the First Look on Akron, I just posted a poll (over there →) asking what you, the readers think Akron's record will be this year. Well, not really the record, but how many wins they could get. Be sure to cast your votes, and read my weekly First Look, posted promptly at 7 a.m. every Thursday.

Poll Results: JoePa, new and improved

Time to play a little catch up, with poll results from last week. Joe Paterno's been all over the news the past month, talking up playoffs and Big Ten expansion, even bringing a down-to-earth approach to one player's legal issues. He seems to have lightened up, particularly towards the media.

ZN asked if readers liked this "new JoePa..." Here're the results...

Poll Results: Blue White Game

First off, the transition to our new format went relatively smooth. So, I'm happy. In the process, I noticed that this poll result was hanging around my desktop. As you all know, I usually post the poll results when they're completed, but this one, from the Blue White Game, must have fallen through the cracks. Most likely, I was just so excited to get to the game, I forgot to publish it. Here ya go:

Well, it was a record crowd, and this poll was our early warning. This year's Blue White Game was a great day to watch some football. Although, I can think of a few Saturdays in Autumn that are even better...

Poll suggestions

I need a new poll topic; something that can last at least a few weeks. I will be taking suggestions until I get something I like. Remember, it has to be something that can stay up, and be relevant, until... well, at least June, when the rookies show up for summer semesters. No "how many wins in '09," or crap like that. So, start sending your ideas, and I'll try to have a new one up this weekend.

Poll Results: PSU all the way!

◊ So we didn't get as many votes as the football polls do, for obvious reasons. But we should all be really excited for PSU basketball right now.

Poll Results: Strong recruiting class

◊ With almost 160 votes submitted, readers are generally pleased with Penn State's 2009 recruiting class. It seems they were able to see past the sensationalist charges that, because Penn State lost Jelani Jenkins, the program is still treading the mediocrity waters.

Poll Results: The schedule sucks

◊ This is pretty self-explanatory, and totally expected. This week's poll, asking readers if they approved of the 2009 football schedule, was a landslide. The fans hate it. I have to agree. Granted, Syracuse was scheduled the year after they went 10-2, in 2001, but still having Eastern Illinois, an FCS team, is in excusable. Sure, they'll tell us that it's just part of the game today, and that it's tough to schedule better teams. Bullshit! If it's so hard, then why do other teams have dynamite schedules seemingly every year? Even when Michigan* scheduled Appalachian State, the Mountaineers were going for their third-straight national championship.

Oh well, at least next year we get Alabama on the schedule.

*I just noticed over at MSC, that UM just inked a date with Delaware State (FCS). No, not Delaware, the team that's pretty competitive. Delaware State. This is a very disturbing trend.

Poll Results: Jelani Jenkins

◊ Why hello there, Mr. Jenkins. The numbers are in, and despite what looks like a close battle until next week's NLOI signing day, readers are picking Penn State as Jenkins' school of choice. Recently, there's been talk that the No. 2-rated LB prospect is leaning towards Florida, so this is a bit surprising to see so many voting for PSU. We can only hope they're right.

Poll Results: Newsome's role in 2009

◊ I was a bit surprised at this week's poll results. But then I realized, I should have listed "redshirt" as an option. I didn't, because I really, really doubt Kevin Newsome will redshirt this season, as he'll need some experience, and if Daryll Clark goes down, Newsome's our boy.

Half of the votes went for Newsome throwing fewer than 26 passes in 2009; surprising because Pat Devlin threw 47 passes. I expect Newsome to throw around that same number this season, especially since he could be the only turn-key quarterback on Penn State's roster in 2010.

And be sure to vote in the new poll, below the posts... this week's topic: Jelani Jenkins.

Poll Results: Maybin and Evans should have stayed at PSU

In what has been a very heated topic over the last week, readers have spoken. According to two recent polls here at ZN, readers indicated that both Maurice Evans and Aaron Maybin should have stayed with Penn State for at least another season before entering the NFL draft. The results are very interesting, as 95 percent said that Evans made the bad move, while only 59 percent said Maybin should have stayed.

Updated: PSU in the Polls

Just a quick FYI sort of thing. But CollegeFootballNews.com and SportingNews.com released their final top-25's. I've updated the last Penn State in the Polls to include those rankings.

I was very disappointed in CFN, as they dropped PSU all the way to No. 10, but that shouldn't be surprising, as they had PSU at only No. 8 going into the Rose Bowl.

SN had a little more faith in PSU, dropping the Lions only one spot to No. 8.

Poll Results: The voters can suck it

We will have to wait another day to find out if Penn State will actually drop from the top-10, but I wanted to throw out the question: Would the voters be justified in doing so? The reaction was clear and definitely opposed to the idea. More than 81 percent of the votes went to either "PSU is still a top 10 team" or "The voters are just punishing PSU for being in the Big Ten." The latter gained one percent more.

Poll Results: PSU over USC

As promised, poll results. Surprisingly enough, most voters–even though they're mostly Penn State fans–voted in favor of a PSU win.

Poll Results: The Devlin Verdict

Well, in case you've forgotten already, Pat Devlin did transfer out of Penn State last week. What do Penn State fans think of Devlin's choice? In all, 62 percent of votes went in favor of Devlin's transfer, while the other 37 percent had some hard feelings towards the former Nittany Lion quarterback. The poll even got some attention from this guy.

So now we'll put this to bed. The next time we hear about Pat Devlin will hopefully be when he's tearing it up in the FCS. Good luck, Pat. See you in the NFL.

Poll Results: USC should just 'keep talkin'

Yeah, as I expected, Zombie Nation readers would just love it if USC kept whining about playing Penn State in the Rose Bowl. USC has displayed incredible arrogance, and we Penn State fans would like nothing more than to have another team underestimate Penn State.
