While you were sleeping, another recruit!
He's a small lad, but really, really, really, ridiculously fast. Waldorf (Md.) Westlake athlete Devon Smith committed to Penn State yesterday. The 5-foot-7, 153-pound athlete is projected to play wide receiver at PSU, but could fill in more like Derrick Williams.
"I thought to myself that I have a chance of playing my first or second year, because they're losing three big starting receivers, like Derrick Williams, (Jordan) Norwood and Deon Butler, so I thought I could really play soon and be a big player at Penn State."With so many big receivers--Brackett, Zug, Powell, Moye, and more--this guy will help Penn State, in terms of variety. Oh yeah, did I mention he was fast? Yup, sure did.
"Smith brings the Nittany Lions class a heavy dose of speed. He posted a 10.59 FAT 100 time in the preliminary round of the USA Junior Olympic Trials, held at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium on the campus of Ohio State University in late June. He posted a 10.68 in the finals, earning sixth place."As the 18th commitment, Penn State's 2009 recruiting class is nearly full, and the recruiting season hasn't even really started yet. This could set up nicely for next season, not having to worry about throwing together a class, come springtime.
