The MSM finally lightens up

◊ Take CFN writer Phil Guidry's spin on the Jared Odrick situation:

"Penn State defensive tackle Jared Odrick is no flea. He was cited for allegedly fighting with three Penn State students and another man outside an apartment building. If this story is true, he took on - count em - four guys! Not that we condone violence in any way, but if a football player - especially a D.T. on a Rose Bowl team - is gonna take on somebody, at least four-on-one is sporting. It's as if he was reportedly trying to change that "Big Ten is weak" stereotype in one rowdy night."
How could I not agree with that? Like Guidry, I don't condone Odrick's actions, but it's about time someone in the MSM realizes that these guys are just kids–– really, really big and talented kids. Sometimes, a fight isn't part of a "larger trend," or "growing trouble" in a football program. Sometimes, a fight is just what it is. I'm not saying CFN was part of the crowd that pounded on Joe Paterno and Penn State the past few years. They have actually looked at the situation, as always, from an objective, reasoned perspective. This case is no different. Too bad the rest of the MSM can't take a cue from that.

Southerners take college football VERY seriously

We've all been there before. Your team loses. A fan of the other team mocks you and your team. You get mad. But that's where most normal people end it. Not in the South.

"A man and woman were shot dead after an argument that witnesses said started over an Alabama-LSU football game..."
I'll admit, I was very pissed off the rest of this weekend. I'm sure I even said "I could kill someone right now," at some point. But I really can't imagine actually doing it.
"According to witness accounts to investigators, Dennis Smith, an LSU fan, called Williams, an Alabama fan, after the game, and the Smiths then went to Williams' home, where a physical altercation led to the shooting... Investigators said Dennis Smith had a pistol and Williams had a shotgun and fired."
Maybe the SEC is perceived by the main stream media as the "best" conference, because if it was't, they'd storm the studios and newsrooms with guns-a-blazin'. Second Amendment, my ass.
